The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, our city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, making him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot other than Springer with his October magic," noted Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he continued.
Toronto claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
