Paceman Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Problems.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and was to take time away from the action for further assessment "during the day".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January begins this coming Sunday.

England have previously lost fast bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was omitted of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, then making 28 with the bat being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match having missed of the third.
