Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
