Former British Serviceman Charged of Killing Kenyan Woman Shows Up in Courtroom

A man has shown up before a judge as extradition proceedings commenced in the investigation of the victim Agnes Wanjiru, a female from Kenya who was murdered near a UK military installation in 2012.

Robert Purkiss, 38 years old, who is hailing from Greater Manchester, appeared before Westminster magistrates court on the last Friday, and informed the court he would challenge the deportation. Sources suggest that he was taken into custody on Thursday evening.

A warrant for arrest for Purkiss was released by a Kenyan court in Nairobi in the month of September. Legal prosecutors informed the Kenyan judiciary that the accused had been accused of a one count, of homicide, and that the government of Kenya would pursue his extradition to answer to accusations.

The defendant was once employed as a medical attendant with the regiment of the Duke of Lancaster, the military regiment for the north-west of England, including on deployments in Afghanistan.

The victim, twenty-one, a hair stylist who had a young daughter, disappeared after a night on the town, and her remains was found 60 days later in the grounds of the accommodation where she had previously spotted.

No one had earlier been detained or indicted in relation to her demise. His detention was the result of a recent detective probe, which was initiated after a report in 2021 by a weekly publication, in which the newspaper contacted several active and retired troops in the military group.

The investigation has been led by investigators from Kenya, which, under a mutual defense pact, retains jurisdiction in the matter.
