Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
An important representative said the incident made him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
